It is still used for many things like network cards, USB/Firewire cards, sound cards, modems, etc. However, a new standard has been introduced called PCI Express, which is faster. Usually runs at 33 MHz clock speed. Note that many PC motherboards color-code these slots. PCI slots are coded white.
